ANASTASSIATHE, Maria (Molly)

Born in Greece, Maria (Molly) Anastassiathe received a thorough classical education with several honorary distinctions and awards for academic excellence. Molly graduated from the University of Athens, School of Philosophy (B.A. in History, 1988); she continued her graduate studies at Bryn Mawr College, Department of Greek, on a graduate scholarship and received her M.A. degree in Ancient Greek in 1997. Molly has taught Modern Greek at Brown University as Adjunct Professor in the Department of Classics (9/1998-6/01), Ancient and Modern Greek, Latin, and Ancient History as Instructor in State Lyceum, Athens, Greece (1996/97), For two decades (2002-2021), Molly taught as Adjunct Professor of Modern Greek in the Department of Classical Studies and the Department of Archaeology at Dickinson College. Molly has given invited lectures and presented international conference papers on teaching Greek as a foreign Language (Patra 1999, 2000; Athens 2000). Her main research and teaching interests focus on Modern Greek Language and Literature, but also include Ancient Greek History and Classics. An author and a researcher, her publications comprise both original creative work (poetry and prose) and a number of forthcoming research articles. Currently, Molly is compiling a full collection of her poems towards publication, and revising her M.A. thesis into an extensive article, entitled ‘Burial Customs in the Iliad and the Odyssey: A Composite World by Homer?’
